michiana doula care

Welcome!

Welcome to Michiana Doula Care. My name is Kris, I'm here to serve the southwestern Michigan, northern Indiana area as a birth doula and childbirth educator. I hope you find something you're looking for while you're here:0)

What is a doula?

The word "Doula" comes from the ancient Greek and is now used to refer to "a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and just after childbirth."

Research has shown,

that when doulas attend births, labors are shorter, there are fewer complications, and there is less need for oxytocin to speed labor, forceps or vacuum extractions, pain medication, epidurals, or cesarean deliveries.

With a doula,

babies are born more aware, and breastfeed easier. Having a doula can reduce the number of babies born in poor condition, are admitted to special care nurseries and have prolonged hospital stays.
